About me

Seraphina Loukas is a 4th-year undergraduate at the University of Denver. She is pursuing a Molecular Biology B.S. degree with both chemistry and psychology minors and a concentration in cognitive neuroscience. Currently, she is working on her research thesis as she has spent two years in a drosophila (fruit fly) neurobiology laboratory. Seraphina both mentors high school and college students alike through different organizations. Seraphina also tutors her underclassmen peers in biology and chemistry classes. Seraphina is very passionate about helping others excel in the sciences because she knows how hard it can be. She also volunteers at a clinic serving a population that experiences several health disparities. Previously, Seraphina had volunteered in her university's covid prevention campaign by taking spit samples for testing to slow the spread on campus. During the pandemic Seraphina had a passion for writing creative letters to elderly living facilities to try to mitigate the effects of isolation. Prior to that she was involved with a homeless youth non-profit organization that also focused on mental healthcare access. In the summer of 2020, Seraphina was part of the Denver Youth Leadership Academy cohort where she participated on a service-learning project focusing on mental healthcare resources and access for the Denver-metro community. Seraphina has also been a participant of the Atlantis Shadowing Abroad Fellowship. Additionally, she has been involved with many leadership roles in organizations on campus. In the future, Seraphina plans to attend a post-baccalaureate research program to strengthen her graduate school application and to hone her research skills. After the
program, she wishes to apply to medical school and or a PhD program and become a medical scientist and doctor of psychiatry.
